Study Animal Rehab-Physio Course

Becoming a dog rehab practitioner

Qualifications opened to animal care professionals in Australia mainly come from courses available in the USA where it has been around for over 20 years and is now very well developed. In the USA it is very common for Vet practices to offer physio/rehab services.

If you are looking for a course to study and become a qualified animal rehabilitation practitioner or animal physiotherapist in Australia you may have to go through one of the following options.

The University of Tennessee – CCRP USA

A post-graduate University qualification opened to veterinarians and physiotherapists.

It is a distance learning course with an on-site lab course at the University of Tennessee. Then an externship is necessary. A 2 days exam ends the course. The whole process takes between 1 to 2 years depending on your involvement.

The CRI (Canine Rehabilitation Institute) – CCRT USA

This course is opened to veterinarians and physiotherapists.

It is a distance learning course with an externship. No exam is required to be qualified at the end of the training.

Since 2016, the CRI offers a training course in Australia in partnership with VETPRAC (Vet Continuous Education)

The Master In Animal Physiotherapy

The University of Queensland has discontinued this course.

The APA – Australian Physiotherapy Association

The “Animal Group” of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (human physiotherapy) offers courses open to physiotherapists only. Some physiotherapists of this group also offer courses to train vet nurses.
